No Shave FUE Hair Transplants for Women

The No Shave FUE hair transplants for women is a revolutionary hair transplant method that has become increasingly popular for women.

The No Shave FUE hair transplants for women is a revolutionary hair transplant method that has become increasingly popular for women interested in restoring their hair. It is an advanced version of the traditional follicular unit extraction (FUE) method and does not require shaving of the donor area. This makes it ideal for female patients who want to undergo a hair restoration procedure without having to deal with the hassle of shaving their head.

What is a Hair Transplant?

Hair transplantation and restoration is a procedure that has been used for decades to restore hair growth in those suffering from hair loss or baldness. This procedure involves removing individual hair follicles from a donor site, such as the back of the head, and transplanting them into areas where they are needed. The transplanted hairs grow naturally, creating a fuller head of hair.

What are the Different Types of Hair Transplants?

Besides the No Shave FUE, the two other methods of hair transplants are the Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) and Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE).  The FUT or "strip" method was first popularized in the early 1990's and requires removing a strip of the scalp from donor area.  That strip is then split up into small grafts of hairs that are placed into the recipient area.  The traditional FUE method became popular in the 2000's as the grafts were removed individually from the donor area, which was less painful and there was no linear scar from the removal of the strip.  However, the donor area must be completely shaved to remove the grafts.

Are Women Good Candidates for Hair Transplants?

Hair loss in women is very different from hair loss in men.  While most men with hair loss will be good candidates for hair transplants, a smaller percentage of women are candidates for hair transplants, but it is still a viable option for many women.  As women have more diffuse hair loss, meaning loss all over, it is important to make sure the donor area is strong enough to support removing hairs from for the transplant.  Women with specific areas of loss, like the temples, the hair line, or the part are also better candidates.  For women that are not candidates for hair transplants, there are other great non-surgical options for them like Painless PRP Therapy, Optimal Platelet Concentration Therapy, and Low Level Laser Therapy.

What was the Best Hair Transplant Method for Women in the Past?

While the FUE method has become the preferred hair transplant method due to the lack of linear scarring and less pain post-op, historically most hair transplant surgeons did not recommend this to women as the entire donor area needed to be shaved.  Therefore the only option was the FUT method which is leaves a long linear scar in the donor area and is more painful than the FUE.

Is the No Shave FUE for Women now the Best Hair Transplant Method?

Unlike traditional FUE procedures, the No Shave FUE does not require the entire donor area to be shaved. Instead, our surgeons have perfected a technique where they are able to extract the follicle without having to shave the surrounding hairs in the donor area. This means the donor area will look essentially the same after the procedure as it did before the procedure, making it the best option for women interested in a hair transplant.

The No Shave FUE offers several benefits over traditional FUE and FUT methods for women. It can provide a shorter recovery period than the FUT procedure and since the donor area is not shaved, it does not require the awkward post-operative look that comes with the traditional FUE.

Do All Hair Transplant Surgeons Offer the No Shave FUE for Women?

No. The No Shave FUE hair transplant is an extremely specialized procedure that has only been perfected by a handful of surgeons in the country.  At our Wellesley and Worcester locations, we are lucky to have a partnership with Medi Tresse Surgical, which offers this revolutionary procedure.  Dr. Thomas Brand, who was trained by one of the leading hair transplant surgeons in the world, has become the leader in the No Shave FUE in New England.  Dr. Brand and Dr. Mark DiStefano are the only hair transplant surgeons in New England offering this great new method.

Overall, No Shave FUE is an ideal option for women who are interested in hair transplants, but do not want to deal with the hassle of shaving their donor area or the pain of the outdated FUT.  If you are considering a hair transplant, talk to a hair transplant specialist at Medi Tresse about No Shave FUE to determine if it’s the right option for you.
