We live in a time of instant gratification. The answer to any question is at our fingertips as we all have our trusty smartphones or you can now even get same day shipping for many products. Due to this increased instant gratification, our expectations have changed and this can be difficult when it comes to medicine. For example, when treating hair loss the results can take upwards of 6 months, but for some patients it can take up to 12 months. The reason for this is due to the complexity of the hair follicle, which produces the hair and is made up of 20 different cell types, and the many factors that can affect the production of healthy hair like diet, hormones, stress, etc.
We certainly all want the best results as soon as possible. While there are no guarantees in medicine, there are options we have to create the optimal environment for the best and fastest results. The good news is that there are multiple treatment options for female hair loss, from Optimal Platelet Concentration™ Therapy to Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) to minoxidil and supplements. The better news is that all of these treatments work differently and treat the hair loss in different ways, which means that when we utilize multiple therapies we are not just treating the follicles with slightly different variations of treatments and just hoping that more of the same is better. Instead, we are coming at the follicle in different ways. We are creating a more optimal environment for healthy hairs to rejuvenate and grow. We often liken it to trying to lose weight by utilizing both dieting and exercising versus just one or the other.
So lets first look at how each treatment option works in the treatment of female hair loss:
Optimal Platelet Concentration™ Therapy/Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy
Optimal Platelet Concentration™ Therapy and Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy deliver the platelets (via plasma) directly to the cells around the follicle, which allows the growth factors to become activated and essentially breathe new life into weak or dying follicles. This allows for a longer growth phase and shorter resting phase, resulting in stronger and more numerous hairs, as well as less hair loss and shedding. With Optimal Platelet Concentration™ Therapy, we are also inducing angiogenesis, which heals the blood vessels around the hair follicles.
Low Level Laser Therapy
Low level laser therapy (LLLT) stimulates cellular activity at the molecular level of the hair follicle and enhances the quality of the hair produced from the hair follicle, thereby reversing miniaturization seen in female hair loss. The increased cellular activity causes the hair follicle to lengthen the amount of time it is in the growth phase. LLLT has also been found to increase blood flow around the follicle.
Formula 82M/Minoxidil
Minoxidil promotes vasodilation (widening of the blood vessels) around the hair follicles and increases cellular proliferation in the hair follicle. This increases the growth phase and decreases the resting phase of the hair, which helps to stimulate new growth and decrease shedding. The benefit of Formula 82M is that it is specially formulated with Tretinoin, which increases absorption of the minoxidil, thereby increasing the efficacy.
Supplements (i.e. Nutrafol, Viviscal)
Hair supplements are important to help stabilize some of the factors that can negatively affect healthy hair growth. Nutrafol, for example, has been found to supplement key dietary nutrients for hair health, balance hormones, and help with stress.
As you can see, each of the above treatments work differently to promote healthy hair, rejuvenate miniaturized hairs, and regrow hair. Therefore, when we utilize multiple treatments at once, we are giving ourselves the best chance to get results and faster results. We strongly believe in utilizing a multifaceted approach to treating female hair loss, which led us to developing the Tresse Rejuvenation Therapy™ protocol, which incorporates the four clinically proven treatments listed above. Utilizing a multi-therapy approach like Tresse Rejuvenation Therapy gives our patients the best chance at success and in the shortest amount of time.
It is important to remember that not all treatments are appropriate for all types of hair loss. During your consultation our staff will determine which treatments would be best for your specific hair loss needs.
